Peckham Platform's vision is that communities can inform and shape their engagement with their locality by working with contemporary visual artists.
Peckham Square Studio
16 September - 16 November
Peckham Square Studio will feature black and white portraits of local residents taken by Eileen Perrier on Peckham Square.
Paying homage to Victorian styles and techniques, a theme that has arisen from workshops and conversations between the artist and students at Harris Academy Peckham. Passers-by were photographed in a mobile studio using a large format camera and headrest. This has resulted in formal portraits mounted both inside and outside the gallery.
Year ten pupils at Harris Academy Peckham have participated in photography workshops with the artist throughout last summer term. Drawing on Perrier’s past projects, students have been taking images in the classroom and at home, using family photographs and personal photo albums as a discussion point.
The artist’s engagement with the students will be highlighted through a partnership between Peckham Space and Autograph ABP. To accompany the exhibition a special edition newspaper willbe published, documenting this new artistic commission by Eileen Perrier and the work by students at Harris Academy Peckham.
Peckham Square Studio is Peckham Platform’s third commission as an independent organisation, and the project follows Perrier’s interest and passion for portrait photography. The exhibition will gather the results of the workshops alongside other images taken out on Peckham Square.
