Join us at Autograph's gallery for an afternoon exploring community, art making, and visual storytelling. Visual artists Karen Jelenje and Esther Phillips will lead this hands-on workshop, sharing how they incorporate questions of identity, culture and heritage into creative practice.
You'll be guided through a series of practical printing, painting and mark-making exercises, culminating in the creation of a collaborative artwork. After the workshop, a piece of the work will be posted to each attendee.
This workshop is open to all experience levels and aims to foster social relationships in a relaxed and informal environment. We'll chat, make art and have fun. Following the creative exercises, there will be time to socialise over refreshments.

Karen Jelenje is a British-Malawian mixed media artist and creative facilitator with a background in architecture and urban design.
Her current visual arts research explores artisanal traditions and communal forms of art making found across the continent with a view to developing her practice by collaborating with others to produce large scale artworks that narrate and preserve personal histories and tales of identity and culture.
Esther Phillips is an Afrocentric artist. Their life's mantra is: 'Nigbagbogbo Fi ifẹ han'—meaning 'Always show love' in their mother's dialect, Yoruba.
Phillips' artistic journey is a continuous dialogue between the personal and the collective, the traditional and the futuristic. It serves as an exploration of self-discovery, cultural reclamation, and a celebration of the ever-evolving narrative of identity. Through their Afrofuturism art, they invite viewers to engage with a visual odyssey that transcends borders, challenges perceptions, and sparks conversations about the kaleidoscopic nature of identity in our interconnected world.

Our building and entrance is step free. A wheelchair accessible lift goes to all floors
