The Missing Chapter Collective
Friday 15 January, 6-30-8.30pm
Free event, booking recommended
Yasmine Akim with guests Gabriela Chase and the Sorryyoufeeluncomfortable Collective.
To open The Missing Chapter Collective Showcase photographer Yasmine Akim invites writer Gabriela Chase and members of the Sorryyoufeeluncomfortable Collective to discuss agency in visual representation and art activism practices. We explore the meaning of agency in black photography today and how and for whom are we ‘re-remembering’ those that have faded from view.
Part of The Missing Chapter Showcase
This series of six events introduces members of The Missing Chapter Collective and their invited guests in panel discussions predicated around responses and interpretations within the contexts of Agency, Archive, Representation, Community and Storytelling. The programme represents an opportunity for peers and other young creative practitioners and thinkers to hear directly how the photographic images sourced for The Missing Chapter – a portfolio of newly researched photographic portraits featuring black sitters in the UK during the 19th and early 20th century - has inspired their personal interactions with historical content, the creative works produced as a result, and how the experience has impacted on their individual practices.
Moderated by writer, curator, and artist, Ama Josephine Budge.
